Hey everybody!
We’re doing a street painting tonight at Tate @ 10:30 to advertise for the Big Event on Tuesday.
After painting we’re going to be putting up fliers everywhere we can around campus.
So come out and help if you can! And it’s gonna be cold so dress warmly!!

Hey guys!
So we’re trying to make sure we get as many people as possible to come out to the big event next week(it’s so close!!). A great way of getting the word out is letting professors know about the event and having them make an announcement in their class. Anna came up with an excellent template that everyone can use to email to their professors or anyone they think would be interested in coming to the event. So just fill out the details and send it to your professors! :)
Dear ________,
My name is ______, and I am a member of Invisible Children at UGA. On November 9th, members of the national Invisible Children organization as well as a student and teacher from our sister school in Uganda will be coming to UGA to speak at our campus. In addition to the speakers, there will be a screening of an Invisible Children film, free food, and entertainment. If possible, could you please inform your students about this event? We would like to get as much support as we can and give our international guests a warm welcome at UGA.
Event Details:
Date: November 9th
Time: 7:00 – 9:00
Place: Tate Grand Hall
Thank you so much for your time and consideration,
______
Hey guys! Here’s everything from Tuesdays meeting. :)
We’re having a benefit concert Friday Oct. 22 at Starbucks downtown 7:30-10:30pm. Our benefit concerts are always sooo much fun! We’re asking for a suggested donation of $5 at the door. Here’s the line up:
All proceeds from the show will go towards our Schools for Schools total.
The website ResolveUganda.org has an online petition that you can sign to pledge to say that you will read President Obama’s strategy on the LRA and to keep him accountable to his promise to help bring an end to the LRA. You can sign the petition here http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/2241/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=4766
We’re thinking about having the petition printed out at the Big Event for people to sign then we’ll enter it in on our computers.
We are also going to have another bake sale Sunday Oct. 24th in Morris at 6pm. The last one was such a success so we’re hoping for even better results! If you would like to bake something or would like to help us sell, send an email to icuatuga@gmail.com and let Raven know.
We will have a street painting Sunday Oct. 24th at midnight. Just come to Tate if you wanna help out. It’ll be great!
There will be a Merch Party Friday Oct. 29th at 3pm. We’ll be making merch for us to sell at the Big Event. That is the Friday of Fall Break so if you will be in town shoot Raven an email and she will give you directions to where it will be held. It’s gonna be a ton of fun!!
Lastly, we’re still working hard on getting everything ready for the Big Event Nov. 9th. The biggest thing we need right now is food donations. If you know anyone that can donate any food let us know. We’re also looking for any organizations that would like to be apart of the event. We will make an official template letter that everyone can use to send out to any organizations/restaurants to ask for help.

Hey everybody!
So we had our bake sale at Creswell tonight and it was a major success! Me, Raven and Jessica just went door to door selling M&M cookies, brownies, and blueberry muffins. And we made…
$61.17!!
That is awesome! We just asked for suggested donations of $.50 per item and most people were happy to give that and some gave way more. And I’m positive we would have made more if we didn’t run out of treats since we only did 2 of the 9 floors Creswell has. Everyone was really nice and some people even donated without taking anything.
Since this was such a success we’re definitely going to do it again before the big event in November. :)

Hey guys. Sorry for the late meeting update. But here we go :)
The Deep South Roadies are doing challenges to see which chapter can raise the most money for Awere Secondary. The deadline for the first challenge ends tomorrow, but we’re definitely going to try and participate in the upcoming challenges. The prizes are pretty neat, personal videos from the Roadies and Monica.
If anyone is interested in helping plan the big event, Raven has made the official spread sheet in a Google Doc. If you’ve never used a Google Doc before it’s basically the best thing ever invented…ever! Anyone can edit the Google Doc once you’ve been invited to use it. Raven has everything set up on it that we need and you can just go in and say what you can help with.
You need to have a Gmail account to access and edit the Google Doc. It’s super easy to sign up for one. Just go to gmail.com Once you have one, send an email to icuatuga@gmail.com with your gmail address and Raven will add you to the Google Doc.
Lastly we will be having our first bake sale at Creswell Sunday Oct. 17th at 6pm. We won’t have a table or anything. We’re just going door to door. Everyone is encouraged to bring baked goods to sell. If you do live in the dorms and can’t bake, don’t worry, there should still be enough. So still come out and help us sell! All of the money we raise will go towards our Schools for Schools total. :)

Hey everybody!
Sorry for the late notice, but if you didn’t see the email, we’re going canning downtown tonight to raise money for ICU.
If you’ve never been canning we basically just walk around downtown with cans and jars and ask people to donate their spare change for ICU. And don’t worry if you’re not 21, we won’t be going into the bars. However if you are 21+ and you want to go into the bars you just need to talk to the bouncers first to see if it’s okay to can inside.
With our awesome win today I’m sure there will be a ton of people downtown celebrating so it should be a good night!
We’ll be meeting at the Arch at 11:00pm and will go from there. Depending on how many people show up we might split up into groups or we’ll just all stay together. We’ll probably stay out until the bars close at 2am but you don’t have to stay that late if you can’t. :)

This was an extremely productive meeting. We brain stormed ideas for our big Face to Face event(November 9th) as well as ideas for our big competition with University of Florida. We are also going to set up a committee to help plan the big event. Anyone who would like to be involved in planning and can commit their time is encouraged to! Just let Jake or Raven know.
Ideas for raising money:
Percentage nights at different establishments
Bake sales in the dorms Sunday nights
Canning downtown(after home games) 11pm-2am
Big Event:
We will be doing a street painting Sunday Oct. 24th at midnight. It will be tons of fun!
After the flyer for the event has been made, everyone will be encouraged to change their Facebook picture to the flyer before the event.
We’ll do two screenings, one of which will be a blue card event
If anyone knows of any organizations/sororities/fraternity/classes that would like to be involved in the event let us know! Last year we had one of the African drumming classes perform and it was so cool!
We’re also looking for any restaurants that could donate any food to us for the event as well. So if you’ve got the hook up anywhere, again, let us know! :)
We want to make this event even bigger and better than the one last year (which was AMAZING! btw) so we’ll need all the help we can get. :)
-Kristen
This is one competition I think UGA can actually win for once since it won’t take place on the field…
Hahaha just kidding guys(kinda) :P
So the lovely people over at the IC University of Florida chapter sent Raven and Jake an email asking if we would be interested in a friendly fundraising competition between our two schools. Never one to back down from a challenge, especially one that could involve beating UF, we gladly accepted. For the children…of course. ;)
The challenge is to see which school can raise the most money the week before the big game(Oct. 30).
As of right now the tentative prize will be some kind of totem that will go to the winner yearly.
I think this is an awesome idea. Capitalizing off our schools bitter rivalry can definitely help raise money for both schools. So we’ll need as many ideas as possible from everyone for fundraising.
GO DAWGS! :)

Every year Invisible Children does a Face to Face tour that brings people from northern Uganda to come tell their stories at screenings across North America. The tour they’re doing now is bringing the top students from the Legacy Scholarship Program to share how they’ve been affected by Invisible Children’s programs throughout the region.
The tour is coming to UGA Tuesday November 9! Just like last year, we want to make this a big event as we are so honored to have the IC Deep South Roadies(again!) and Monica, a student from our sister school in Uganda, Awere Secondary School coming to visit us and tell her story.
The event is only a month away so we’re going to need everyones help in planning and getting this thing together.
And don’t worry, if you can’t come to the meetings but still want to help with the event, I’ll be putting everything on here that we plan and such. :)

Deep South Schools for Schools
The countdown has begun!
:)
Hey everybody!
So the geniuses behind Invisible Children at UGA(Raven & Jake) came up with this nifty idea to start a blog as a way for those who can’t attend our weekly meetings to stay informed with what we went over and any other important information that might come up. Cool huh? :)
This blog will be updated at least once a week(perhaps more if I get bored lol), so no one will have to feel like they’ve missed out on anything.
So yeah, get excited because it’s going to be pretty amazing! :)
